ホスピス・ボランティアのための講習会

両親の介護をしてもらった感謝の気持ちでこの講習会を受けてみた。
武蔵小金井駅から数十分のセント・ヨハネ修道院。静謐という言葉がぴったりの厳かなエリア。
今までのどんな講習会にもなかった、自分の感性の通用しない世界だ。
どんな人達がボランティアになっているのだろう。医療専門スタッフが提供しない、何ともないありふれた普通の生活風景がホスピスには必要なようだ。意気込んでしまうようではやれないからむずかしい。No task is too big or too small for a hospice volunteer, but often the most important thing you can do is just "be there" for patients to reassure them they are not alone, to hold a hand, to offer a smile, or to just listen. It is not easy work, but the personal rewards are enormous. The strength and courage of patients provide a constant source of inspiration, and volunteers usually feel they gain more than they have been able to give.http://www.hospicenet.org/
